Cavendish House

This was my second visit and just as good as the first. Lovely hosts and a lovely breakfast. I'll be back.

The breakfast was lovely, and the views from there were just as good as from our room upstairs. We had a really enjoyable stay in a top-floor room and would happily come back.

The way we were spoken to at breakfast was disgraceful, especially with other guests there. We weren’t even allowed to sit down, and were told rudely that our food had been “chucked in the bin.” The cereal, juice, tea and coffee were still out. We might have been late, but a simple, polite explanation would have been enough. There was no apology or sign of remorse. Shame. We came down at 9am after missing the stated 8:30 breakfast time. If the cutoff was strict, that should have been made clear, and we should have been warned. Mentioning 8:30 at check-in didn’t tell us it was exactly 8:30 or else. We’d also messaged several times about our last-minute booking and got no response, so we called to say, apologetically, that we’d be delayed. You agreed that 7:30pm was fine. Even with car trouble, we got there by 7pm and had paid by 7:07, apologising again. We could have arrived sooner if you’d sent parking instructions instead of leaving us to figure it out in the rain. If you can’t handle last-minute bookings, just say so. We weren’t expecting to be treated like a nuisance. You didn’t have to serve us, but basic decency costs nothing. A cold dismissal and the claim that breakfast had been thrown away were no way to handle it.

We found the rooms clean and quiet, and could park right in front of the house. Susan and John were very friendly and helpful when we had questions. The location is great, and we’ll definitely consider staying at this guest house on a future visit.
