Premier Inn Weymouth Seafront

The state of the place was disgusting. Our bedding was ripped and didn’t fit the beds, and the so-called king-size bed was just two singles pushed together. There was mold in the bathroom, on the net curtains and on the windows, plus something spilled on the wall in our room. The carpets looked as though they hadn’t been hoovered for ages, and the banisters were black with built-up dirt and sticky. Even the entrance windows and door looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a year. When I reported it to customer relations, they said, “you should have told the desk so they could fix it.” The whole hotel is so run down it would need to close for at least a week to sort it out. Useless customer service.

The staff were friendly, and the rooms were what you’d expect from a Premier Inn. It’s right on the sea front, so you can walk along and enjoy the views on the way into town. The car park looks full at first, but there’s more parking round the back. The restaurant/pub attached serves good food. There was very little for vegetarians on our first night, but they were waiting on a delivery and there was more choice over the following days.

The room turned out better than expected, clean and with a Nespresso machine and fridge. The shower was another story, with water pressure so poor I might have rinsed off faster in the sink. At least parking is free, so driving here to suffer doesn’t cost extra. Weymouth has so few hotel choices that I suppose my company picked this one by throwing a dart at a map. Arriving before 3:00 pm means paying an extra £20 for early check-in, even when it’s 2:30 and housekeeping are sitting in reception chatting because the rooms are already done. Letting me in half an hour early would apparently have broken the space-time continuum. I paid £6 for a pint to pass the time instead. At 3:00 sharp I came back to find ten other guests queued up, all of us waiting because we hadn’t paid the half-hour ransom. Great system. Sadly, I’ll be back soon for company bookings. Maybe things will improve, though I suspect only the price of that pint will go up.

We had requested a ground-floor room, which was provided, and that mattered since there’s no lift to the second floor. The room had everything we needed, including a fridge and plenty of tea bags and coffee, and the bed was very comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly, parking right outside was easy, and the Brewyers Fayre for breakfast was just across the car park, a minute away. The people in the room above were annoyingly loud as they walked around. And the toilet paper was the thinnest, cheapest stuff we’ve ever had the misfortune to use.
