The location was perfect, and the place is full of history. We had dinner there all three nights, and it was delicious with very generous portions. Leah gave us a lovely welcome, and Michael served us and couldn't do enough. Breakfast was beautifully cooked with lots of options. The huge bath, warm towel rail and comfortable bed were all lovely, and it was really good value. The room was a little cold, though I'm sure it just needed the radiators bleeding. It could use a bit of refurbishment here and there, but not enough to put me off coming back. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We had a lovely meal in a cosy, welcoming place, and it's great if you're bringing a dog. The portions were very generous, so go hungry. We started with the prawn cocktail and salmon terrine, both delicious, then had tikka trout and pork belly. Trifle and sorbet for pudding were brilliant.

We ate here on Christmas Eve and were so full we couldn't manage dessert. The vegetarian and vegan choices were so good I couldn't decide, but I went for the Caramelised Fennel and Orange Galette and it was superb. My partner's Fish Pie was next level. The menu was amazing and reasonably priced, service was prompt, and the atmosphere delightful. We decided to return on Boxing day to try all the other tempting dishes. Really recommend this place, a real gem.

The staff were kind and helpful, the food really good, and we enjoyed staying overnight in this beautiful, historic pub and inn in Whitby. Heating could be better, especially since we visited in winter. We know it's an old building, so it seemed to work on and off. Otherwise the service was good, and it was a pleasure to stay in such a historic building.

The food was amazing, and the kitchen deserves credit, but the service overshadowed what should have been a lovely birthday meal for my partner. We hadn't booked, and from the moment we arrived the waitress, a woman with long dark hair whose name I don't know, was cold and unwelcoming. Her abrupt, dismissive tone made us feel like an inconvenience, with no smile or effort to make the atmosphere pleasant. That really brought down the mood while we were celebrating. It's a shame, as I've visited this pub before, but after this most recent visit I won't be returning anytime soon.
