Chedburgh Bed & Breakfast

I paid £53 for one night and thought that would be okay, but the place is outdated and barely fit for purpose. There was no hot water in the morning, so I had to wash at the sink with cold water. The bathroom was fairly clean, but shared by as many as five bedrooms. I knew I wasn't booking an ensuite, but hadn't expected to share a shower and toilet with five other rooms. There was a bathroom for rooms five and six, and we were in room nine; there were no signs for rooms 7-9, which was unbelievable. The room's carpet looked grubby, there was mould between the double-glazed panes, and there shouldn't have been dust in the bedroom. The mattresses were rock hard and sat on what looked like a homemade box platform. In the hall, the banisters felt dirty and the carpet was stained. Outside, the small block-paved driveway had moss, weeds and a dead plant. There was no proper hospitality tray, just old coffee and mugs. Although many things were advertised, there were no toiletries, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, teaspoons, biscuits or breakfast order slip. The TV remote didn't work and there was no hairdryer in the room. Even if one had been available downstairs, I was on the second floor and would have had to carry it up four flights or dry my hair in the hall. With cold water, I certainly wasn't going to wash my hair anyway. I had three long conversations with Airbnb, who tried to contact the host, Sara, for me, but got no reply.

I loved staying at the Chedburgh. The rooms were clean and tidy, and it was good value. I could bring my frenchie, and we had a lovely time visiting the area. I'll be booking another stay soon.

We had a lovely stay, with the sea so close by. The rooms were clean and getting in was easy. I'd definitely recommend it.

We arrived to find the door locked, even though we'd been told our room key would be inside. It took 90 minutes to reach a staff member, and replies to calls and texts took ages. The alternative rooms offered were either dirty or had no keys. We booked another hotel and are waiting for a full refund. I won't stay here under any circumstances.
