Rose Cottage At Troutbeck

We loved the charming cottage and its extraordinary views. It was comfortable, with excellent modern appointments, and wonderfully placed for walks and other outdoor activities. There's a pub and tea shop very close by, and both serve excellent food. We can't recommend it enough for a peaceful, restorative stay.

Rose Cottage is a lovely base in Troutbeck, with hikes starting right from the house. The village is stunning and right in the heart of the Lake District. We even watched sheep being herded past the house, which added to the rural charm. Windermere and Ambleside are both a short distance away, and Windermere is easy to reach, just a 10-minute taxi ride from the train station. A tearoom at the bottom of the lane serves breakfast and lunch; I especially enjoyed the sausage ciabatta. The local pub is an easy walk too, and I had great fish and chips there. Inside, the cottage is clean and comfortable, with spacious bedrooms and very comfortable beds. The large kitchen and dining area worked well for cooking and sharing meals with friends or family, while the separate living room was cosy for relaxing after a day on the fells.

It felt like a home, and the house is gorgeous, spacious and in a beautiful spot. Groups of 6-8 could stay comfortably. Some of us worked remotely during our stay, and we especially appreciated the fast, stable internet.

The AGA combined cooker was a first for me, and preparing food with it felt really unique. We had lovely, helpful hosts who gave us perfect directions and suggested nearby trails. There's a lovely cafeteria at the bottom of the road, with amazing ice cream for hot days. Lots of walks are accessible near the property, even without a vehicle.
