Windsor Guest House

The room itself was clean and tidy, and breakfast was OK, but I wouldn’t stay here again. We booked by phone and asked for an email confirmation. It took over a week and three calls to arrive. When we got there, nobody was around to welcome us, hand over the key or help with problems. We had to collect the key from the local sweet shop, and anything else had to be handled by phone, if we could get through. We thought we’d booked a room with its own toilet and shower. The confirmation said private bathroom, but we had to share a bathroom and toilet with other guests. The owner had assured me on the phone that we’d be the only ones using it because the other rooms were en-suite, which wasn’t true. The shared bathroom wasn’t very good either. The owner did agree to the discounted price I suggested after all the lies, though I think she just wanted to get rid of us.

I booked two rooms for one night: one en-suite and one with a “private bathroom” down the corridor. Instead, the toilet was shared with guests in other rooms, the sheets were stained, and the hotel was above a shop, which I found very unsatisfactory. My Lexus nx wouldn’t fit in the small parking gap. I paid £140, didn’t meet anyone in charge, and felt the place was unsafe. I was worried about my car being vandalised and couldn’t sleep there. I wasn’t given a refund. I kept asking for confirmation by email, but never got it. The lady said she’d text it, but that didn’t happen either. The only way to get information or resolve problems was to call her, and sometimes she was hard to understand. To get a proper idea of the area, don’t trust the website, use Google Street View. A very nice man at the shop handed over the keys, but he couldn’t help with any hotel problems. There was no proper parking, no face-to-face contact with hotel staff, and no greeting beyond the shop staff, who said they had nothing to do with the hotel. I didn’t feel safe, wasn’t given a private bathroom, and got stained sheets. The whole thing felt like a rip-off, and I didn’t sleep in the rooms they’d allocated. This is the last time I’ll book here. Learn from my mistake and choose a different hotel.

Spotlessly clean rooms, great service and fantastic value for Windsor. The location is excellent too, close to Legoland and within walking distance of the town centre and Windsor Castle.

The room was quite small, and the bed really wasn’t big enough for two people. Otherwise, this was great value. It was very clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was great.
