The Mendip Gateway

We’ve stayed here twice now and are already sure we’ll return. The bed is one of the comfiest we’ve had in a hotel room, and the cooked breakfast kept us full until tea time. Sarah & Paul make everyone feel welcome, even offering a nice hot cuppa after the journey. It’s a handy base for a short break, with three pubs within walking distance, the Thatchers Cider Factory two miles away, and good transport links to Bristol & Bath. Lovely little guesthouse.

We rented the whole place for our wedding reception and guests. The large reception and dining areas are bigger than they look in the photos, and the kitchen is a good size without being so big that guests could get lost in it. Sarah has decorated the place tastefully and clearly cares about her guests, with those little extras that make a stay enjoyable. Although it’s on the A38, it’s quiet and easy to reach, with plenty of parking and two pubs serving food right next door.

The owner made us feel so welcome and was wonderfully accommodating. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and she even added fresh sliced fruit to our full English. The house itself is cosy and lovely, and cleaner than any hotel or B&B I’ve stayed in. All this at a very competitive price. I wish I could give it six stars. Thank you for everything.

The building has such a distinctive style, it made me feel like I’d stepped into another century. The bed was really comfortable and the food was amazing. It’s close to Bristol airport, too. A lovely place with great service, and I’d like to visit again. Thank you very much.
