The Rose and Crown Hotel

Our room in the charming old building was spotless, comfortable, and inviting, and the service was exceptional. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived last night. When a personal issue came up at the last minute, the staff gave us generous, steady support and help. This will be our only choice when we’re back in the area. Thank you!

This was the filthiest place I’ve ever stayed, and I’d never come back. We’d asked to change rooms because the window in the original one was broken and spiders and other creatures were crawling everywhere. We got this room instead, though we hadn’t inspected the first one, and I can only imagine how awful it might have been too. We paid a non refundable rate and didn’t have anywhere else to stay that night, so we had little choice but to remain, even though we would have gone home without a refund. They did provide towels and shower gel, but I can’t understand why anyone would choose to stay here.

The room itself was spotless, and the staff at breakfast were lovely and very friendly. But I had to go out onto the street to get to my room, and the toilet had no water connection, so it wouldn’t flush. There was no reception to contact, which was almost funny. I’d call this a boarding house, not a hotel.

The staff were nice, and there’s secure parking at the rear. Still, the place is very tired and a bit grubby, with nothing beyond the room in terms of services. It was once clearly a grand old hotel, which makes that a shame. We only had to spend around 8 hours there because it was our only option, so it was bearable. If you think of it as a cheap 1.5-2* place to sleep, you’ll be okay. It feels like a metaphor for Wisbech.
