I remember the friendly staff and manager, and especially John on late reception. He knew I liked hot chocolate and would bring me one when I arrived. Sometimes I got there in the early hours after a long day at work, so I’d head straight to bed and leave early. It was a shock to hear that John had passed away suddenly. This was when it was called the Witney Four Pillars Hotel, and I’d stay overnight for work, sometimes booking ahead and sometimes deciding at the last minute because of the journey home and late finishes. The rooms were tidy and comfortable, and I liked the location, though I never had time to use the facilities. I’m sorry to hear some guests have been disappointed. Places can get worn over time. I live in the north west now, so I may not get back, but the memories are still there.

Sean deserves a special mention for helping my son as a first aider. The staff were excellent, and the hotel itself was lovely. Our room was a good size, with tea, coffee and milk provided. Breakfast was tasty and filling, and the pool area was clean, though there weren’t private changing rooms. Being able to leave bottles of milk behind reception was really useful with a young child. I’d stay again.

The restaurant meal was excellent quality and good value, and the staff gave great service. I chose from the main menu instead of the included two-course meal and paid a couple of pounds extra. There was only a limited vegan choice. I booked through a Secret Escapes deal and had a deluxe room. It was small, but freshly decorated, with a new shower room fitted to a good standard. The hotel and dining room looked clean and tidy. I also enjoyed walking around the lake next door. Access to the leisure facilities was limited, so book ahead. The pool is small but usable, with a whirlpool, plus a sauna and steam room beyond the changing rooms. I’d been unsure after reading some reviews, but my stay was excellent. They seem to have taken earlier criticism on board.

We had to leave early for Blenheim Triathlon, and the packed breakfast was just what we needed: fruit, pastries, sandwiches, yogurts and drinks. We loved it and would happily stay again. The room was clean and had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed, fluffy towels, tea and coffee, and a lovely view. Reception were friendly and helpful, and the manager kindly let my husband keep his triathlon bike in the office overnight. The bar team were great too, and the bar food was excellent. Thank you.

The pool staff were nice, and a young man in the restaurant was very polite. The manager seemed pleasant when we spoke to him on our last day. But the reception lady was moody and unwelcoming, which made a poor first impression. The restaurant food wasn’t good and cost far too much. Our room was dated and needed refurbishing, and at 3am on the final night the alarm went off. Another guest who stays there often apparently said that happens a lot. We wouldn’t stay here again.
