The one good thing here is the access to Virgin Active, with its sauna, steam room and pool. At £90 a night, though, this place isn’t worth it. I’d find a good nearby B&B for better quality, less noise and more professional service. It could be a much nicer hotel if they spent money on the decor and shower, improved breakfast and got staff to act more professionally. The room looks like it was last decorated in the 80s. Tiles were coming off the wall, and the useless shower head either pointed at the taps or sprayed everywhere except on me. The temperature control gave me warm, warm or far too hot. Breakfast was poor: an average full English, cheap supermarket-style packaged croissants and very little fruit, which wasn’t fresh. The hotel is right beside a busy train line. The room was so hot I had to leave the window open. Staff seemed unprofessional, with lots of young people running the place and acting like they were still at school. They complained about their jobs and management. I had to ring the bell several times because the staff were all out front hanging around in the garden. It reminded me of Fawlty Towers.
