We stopped in while travelling from Edinburgh to Newcastle and found a little gem. The hosts were so friendly, and the food was some of the most delicious we’ve had. The chips were fresh and yummy. We’ll definitely recommend it.

We ate dinner here three times during our week-long visit, and every meal was delicious. We tried haddock and chips, a teriyaki halloumi bowl and belly pork roast; my husband had a burger, sirloin beef roast and seafood crockpot. There’s a good range of ales too, and dogs are welcome. The staff made us feel welcome, as did the friendly locals. The location is handy: Maelmin Heritage Trail is about 200 yards away and well worth visiting, with a cafe and gift shop across the road from the pub. Wooler, Ford Village and Etal are about a 10-minute drive. Highly recommend a visit to this historic Inn.

We really enjoyed our first visit and will definitely be back. Our neighbors arranged dinner and booked the table; it wasn’t busy, with just two other tables there. We skipped starters and ordered pork, salmon and roast turkey, and everyone enjoyed their meal. We had dessert too: I chose pavlova, and the others had sticky toffee pudding and Christmas pudding. Everything was great.

The setting is lovely and traditional, and the service was friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed the food and couldn’t find fault with any of the dishes. Highly recommend!
