The garden was spacious and well kept, a lovely spot to sit outside with a drink or a meal. Inside, The Crown Hotel in Wootton Bassett felt warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who made an effort to help you feel at home. There’s a real community feel and a family-friendly atmosphere. The food was full of flavour, cooked just right, nicely presented and served in generous portions. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in it. This is much better than ordinary pub food, and better than plenty of gastropubs too. I’ve visited a lot of pubs, and this is one of the best. We were just passing through, but The Crown is well worth a visit. We’ll be back, it’s a place that sticks with you.

We originally stopped in for a drink on our first visit to the Pub in Wootton Bassett, then stayed for dinner. The staff were attentive and seemed happy, and the Chef came out to check my wife’s vegetarian choice. Her Vegetarian Sausage & Onion in a Ciabata with chips was tasty, she said. I had the Mince & Onion Pie with Mash, Vegetables and Gravy, and was struck by how good the pie tasted. The vegetables were cooked just right, and the mash and gravy were excellent too. Prices were reasonable, so five stars for the food and the staff, Chef included. We’ll pop in again next time we’re in Wootton Bassett.

Right in the centre of Wootton Bassett, this is a simple, pleasant and inexpensive place to stay. The staff were helpful, the food and beer were good, and our clean room had everything we needed. Breakfast wasn’t included, but there are lots of options on the high street.

This has become a really good family pub, with excellent staff and a great family-run feel. Looking forward to them starting food.
