The Farmyard

We were only there for one night after a wedding, and wished we’d booked longer. The apartment was spacious and very well equipped, with a fantastic, peaceful outlook. The cafe looked like a nice place for breakfast, but it was closed on the day we left, so we didn’t get to try it.

We had dinner at the Trough restaurant, and the chateaubriand was delicious. It was lovely to walk there and back from the apartment and enjoy our drinks. The Farmyard itself was a beautiful, modern place with everything we needed, and I was especially pleased to find a Nespresso coffee machine. The clever key check-in worked really well for us arriving late, outside the usual check-in hours. The bifold doors opened up the indoor and outdoor areas seamlessly, and the big upstairs bedroom window gave us a lovely view of the rolling countryside from bed in the morning. We stayed a few days in August 2022 and will definitely come back.

We had a packed schedule visiting friends in Minehead and Kingswear and seeing lovely landmarks and coastlines, and coming back to our Farmyard hideaway was the perfect end to each day. This was our second visit, and we booked the same room because we loved it so much. It’s great value and more like a little home for two, with floor-to-ceiling windows upstairs and down, and doors opening onto a patio courtyard overlooking the farm and countryside. You can have breakfast outside while watching their special breed of cows and the other farm animals wandering and grazing. It’s very quiet and private, with no reception or keys to lose. You can cook for yourselves when you want, or eat at their on-site restaurant, The Trough. It’s beautifully done, incredibly comfortable, has views from every table, and serves generous, excellent food. Room servicing is available if you ask; otherwise you can sleep in, potter about and read undisturbed. We were happy to make the bed and clean when needed. I’m very fussy, but I haven’t slept so well in years. The bed was perfect. There’s a generous shower room with a sink and toilet upstairs beside the modern four-poster bed, plus a lovely, roomy, luxurious bath and bathroom downstairs, so nobody has to compete for the bathroom. There’s a TV in both the lounge and bedroom. Needless to say, we’ll be back.

The duplex apartments are beautiful, looking out over a green valley and the farm, with cockerels and chickens roaming free. It’s an incredible place and experience, with super-friendly people. Gemma and Nikki helped make last weekend’s birthday celebration a unique memory. The on-site restaurant, Trough, is great too. My only suggestion would be a better wine selection.
