Alister was quick to help when the heating played up, arriving within two minutes, and even let us check out an hour later so we could have our usual hot shower in the morning. We didn't get to meet Claire. The townhouse was clean and beautiful, with a good TV selection for a quiet evening in. It's a lovely period place close to the city centre, on a road with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops for pretty much everything. There's cheap parking too. We'd definitely book again, and I'd recommend it.

Spencer House has three generously sized, tastefully decorated bedrooms with plenty of storage and clothes hangers. The rooms are thoughtfully done, and the Christmas tree in the lounge was a lovely touch. Alistair had already sent recommendations for things to do and places to eat and drink in York when we briefly met him at the front door. The house has everything you need and feels like home. It's a 10-minute walk to the railway station and city centre, with great local shops and restaurants just around the corner. Robinson’s cafe was outstanding. We had a fantastic couple of days in York, and this was our first stay at Spencer House. Two adjoining properties could also be booked with it for larger groups, and it won't be our last visit.

We really liked being able to bring our dog to this lovely, well-kept house. It's in a great central spot, and the hosts communicated really well both before arrival and during the stay. We'd recommend it and will come back next time we're in York.

There were five of us, and the house had plenty of room. It's conveniently placed for York centre and the main sights, and was nicely decorated and well equipped. The Christmas tree in the living room was a nice touch. We had a lovely few days at Spencer House, communication with the owner was very good, and we'd happily stay again.

Alistair was a great host, and the beds were really comfortable. Spencer House is lovely inside, well equipped for all six of us, and there's plenty of room. It's also very close to the centre. Thanks for a great stay, we'll be back.
