Coyaba Beach Resort

We’ll definitely come back. The room looked new and was clean and comfortable. The front desk, dining room, and housekeeping staff were all polite, and the customer service was excellent.

It’s a peaceful resort, with entertainment on most nights, rather than a party scene. The food and service were excellent, and the beach is beautiful. I highly recommend it. If you’re looking to party and drink until the bar closes every night, stay somewhere else or head to a local party spot.

The rooms were very clean, and the housekeeping team were attentive. Most of the staff were great, though a few had bad attitudes. The food was excellent. One bellman at the front stood out with the best welcome I’ve had at a resort. The rest of the staff could learn from him, especially the bartenders and reception desk staff, who need to change their attitudes or find another job. It was a peaceful place until the medical students arrived after school and took over the beach bar and beach.

The beach was nice, and the rooms and amenities were outdated but fine. On our first night, before heading to dinner, I closed all the doors and turned on the AC. When we came back about two hours later, the floor was flooded, with water pouring from the unit. I thought the room above us had a burst pipe. It took an hour after I called the front desk for maintenance to arrive with a shop vac. We’ve traveled everywhere from hostels to luxury resorts, and this was our worst accommodation experience overall. With one employee as the exception, we were treated like our presence was a bother, from check-in through the wait staff at the one meal we dreaded. A smile and hello got silence, a grumble, or outright rudeness. This wasn’t “island time,” it was terrible service. The food was awful, flavorless, overcooked, and clearly catered to a much older crowd. Don’t get the all-inclusive package. We bought a bottle of wine at our first and only dinner there, but it had turned to vinegar and they refused a refund. We ate out for every other meal. We booked a 2pm snorkel trip pickup through the hotel and explained to the booking representative that we’d be returning from our conference around that time. They assured us it would be fine, but the pickup left at 1:45pm. We were basically told “oh well,” with only a more expensive, shorter trip the next day offered instead. No other options. Calling this a four-star hotel is a stretch.
