We had a confirmed reservation through an online booking platform and had paid the full amount in advance, but the welcome we got on arrival was hostile. The owner yelled at us in Georgian to leave, saying “Go away,” and wouldn’t discuss anything. The explanations kept changing: cash only, no water, or not renting. We were standing in deep snow with no internet access and aggressive dogs nearby while being shouted at from a distance. It was the most hostile and unwelcoming experience we’ve ever had. Be careful with this place. It seems unreliable and potentially unsafe for travelers.

The guest house is on the edge of Ambrolauri, though you can still walk to the bus station. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the small rooms each had an ensuite washroom. From the living room balcony, the mountain view was splendid. The owner was friendly and helpful. Breakfast wasn’t included, but we asked and she made us a fantastic one for a small extra fee. It was the best breakfast I’ve had in Georgia. She also arranged local black wine by calling a neighbor, who brought us two liters of delicious homemade wine later that evening. Our room cost quite a bit more than in other Georgian cities, though that seems to be the general pattern in this particular region. I’d still happily return.
