Guesthouse Nika & Hotel Costa

We stayed at the hotel for eight months, from autumn through summer. The room had everything we needed, and the owners were always friendly and helpful.

The friendly community made it feel like home 💕. I could walk to the sea every day, with restaurants nearby. They only serve breakfast, so for other meals you’ll need to walk out or order through Bolt. Bring cash, since cards aren’t accepted.

The location only really works if you have your own car. Inside, the rooms are cold and the mattresses and toilet are awful. There’s a stove and washing machine, but no microwave, despite one appearing in the photo. The bathroom smells of sewage and has water sitting on the floor, though it’s unclear if the toilet is leaking. The balcony and room have nowhere to dry clothes: the radiators are off, there’s no towel rail, and the bathroom hooks keep falling off. You have to run the air conditioner on high to warm up. For two days there was no hot water. The boiler broke on day one and was repaired the next day, but the water was still cold. The owner insisted it wasn’t cold, just “summer water.” There’s no electricity around the property, so you need a flashlight. When it rains, water pools on the grounds and you can’t get out without wet feet. The place in the photos bears no resemblance to what we found.

The one thing we liked was the lobby, which really is as nicely designed as it looks in the photos. The cleaning staff also did a good job, and the place was clean. We didn’t book breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. The rest was disappointing. Our room was damp and smelled musty, with a bathroom drain that gave off a bad odor. The hallway felt like a factory, and the old-looking rooms were bare, with little furniture or decoration. The mattresses were worn and uncomfortable. There were no chairs in the room or on the balcony, and nowhere to hang laundry. The balcony door wouldn’t stay shut and kept opening by itself. The wall TV couldn’t connect to internet, cable, or satellite. It’s outside Batumi and only reachable by taxi, in a bleak area. We really don’t understand the positive reviews, and wouldn’t recommend booking here.
