Gulnasis Guesthouse

The owners made us feel welcome and were really kind and helpful. They even offered to call the bus station to check which minibus we needed for the next day. Our room was a decent size, with a nice bathroom and hot shower, and the courtyard was beautiful. The kitchen was large and clean.

We could walk everywhere in Batumi's compact, interesting center, and the Boulevard was about 15 minutes away on foot. On our last night, the family were celebrating a birthday and kindly shared a huge piece of cake and a glass of wine with us. That was a lovely end to a great stay at Gulnasi's guest house. We arrived around 7 in the morning, earlier than expected, after the long trip from Kutaisi airport. A man was awake and showed us straight to our room, bringing clean bedsheets so we could rest, though he barely spoke English and the owner was asleep. We met the lady of the house later; she was very kind and explained what we needed to know. It's a nice place, though of course not a 5 star hotel. The balcony looks over the neighborhood, mostly old panel houses, which feels a bit crowded. Still, this is the less shiny side of Batumi that I think visitors should see too. It was a great experience. :)

The location was handy, between Chavchavadze avenue and Gorgiladze street, within walking distance of the Boulevard and a few malls. The old town was a short ride away. I spent a week at Gulnasi's Inn before leaving Batumi, and had a pleasant stay. It's a classic inn or guest house in the heart of the city. The family lives on the ground floor, with a few other floors rented out. My studio had a small, lovely balcony, a spacious bathroom, and a couple of beds. The main bed was very comfortable, with great pillows. The tub reminded me of a sitting tub and could work for a baby too. It was also great for soaking my feet and legs. I arrived on an unusually cold, drizzly day in early May, with only +12 C outside, but the room was warm and dry. The aircon worked very well, and the floor right outside the bathroom was warm too. Downstairs, the shared kitchen had everything needed, plus a washing machine.

We only meant to stay one night after finding this place by chance, since we had a hostel booked for the next day. But the rate was the same as the hostel, and here we had a private room instead of sharing with other people, so we stayed on. It was clean, the WiFi was good, and there was a kitchen where we could cook. It's also not far from the sea or the center.
