The hosts made us feel welcome and helped with everything we needed. It’s a lovely family-run place, and their homemade honey is delicious. Mtirala House in Khala is a beautiful little retreat surrounded by nature, with amazing hill views. Mtirala National Park is close by, and the sea is still near enough for a swim. It feels peaceful and homey.

The host was cheerful and helpful, and getting to the hut was easy. It sits on a hill, so the panoramic view is wonderful. There were insects because it’s right in nature, but they didn’t harm us. The inside of the hut is beautiful.

We came back for a second stay with Mamia, Madona, Mika and Mamuka. The family is unbelievably friendly, and we love the facilities and beautiful setting. Breakfast and dinner were high quality, as were the wine and chacha. It’s an excellent place for birdwatching, and I recommend it to anyone staying in the South of Georgie.

We stayed five nights and loved being out in the countryside, surrounded by nature. It’s close to Mtirala National Park and the Khala Hiking Trail. The hosts made delicious meals with homemade cheese, honey and bread. We didn’t rent a car, but getting into town was easy enough by taxi or public vans to chakvi/batumi from the main road. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The river is just a short walk away, and the balcony looks out over grapefruit and clementine groves. It’s so peaceful that birdsong is all you hear. Mamuka speaks very good English and was helpful in pointing out where to go around the national park. I’ll be back.
