Belona Hotel

This felt more like renting a private home than staying in a hotel, and the rooms weren’t up to hotel standards. A loud bar nearby meant there was no quiet until midnight. We were also badly bothered by mosquitoes and couldn’t sleep all night.

We stayed in two rooms and had a great experience. The location is right in the centre, and the rooms were clean. The staff were friendly, proactive, and spoke English. The beds were hands down the most comfortable I’ve slept in while in Georgia, and the showers were a decent size. For the price, it’s hard to beat. I’ll stay here again. It felt on par with American hotels.

The room itself was fine, and the central location is good, but service was basically nonexistent. There seemed to be very few staff, and there was no phone in the room, so whenever we needed something we had to go find someone in person. There was no tea, coffee, kettle, or even water. When I asked for water, a staff member told me to drink tap water. Seriously? We ended up going to a department store to buy some. The hotel is also noisy, so avoid it if that bothers you. To top it off, the room had a filthy smell. We booked based on the rating, and I don’t understand how this is a four-star hotel.

The location was the only good thing. I really wouldn’t recommend staying here. There were too many mosquitoes in the room and no window screens. The bed was only about 180 cm long, I think, so my feet stuck out. The room had very basic equipment, with no desk or even a small wardrobe for clothes. Sound carried everywhere. I could hear people talking in another room, and the windows didn’t block the street noise, which was noticeable while I was trying to sleep. The toilet and shower were very low quality and had problems. There was nobody at reception; staff were in a private room and had to be looked for. They were smoking in the hall, which smelled terrible. The room had two main chandeliers with three bulbs each, but only one bulb worked in each, and the bathroom light was the same. They also forgot to leave us towels.
