Irina's Guesthouse

Irina made us a plentiful, delicious breakfast on the first morning of our Mestia to Ushguli trek, and even packed us a little lunch box when we had to leave early the next day. She also kept our luggage safe while we hiked and let us return a night earlier than planned. The rooms were tidy, comfortable, and well kept. A great first or last stop on the trek, and there’s a cute dog, too. Recommended all around.

Irina was kind and helpful, and the food was very good. Our double room looked over the road and stream toward the mountains. It was spacious, with a cupboard and hooks for clothes, and the bed was the most comfortable we’d had in Svaneti. Both shared bathrooms were very clean. Chvibiani is also a good place to stay if you want to avoid seeing lots of hikers the next morning, as long as you set off early enough.

Marina, not Irina, runs the place. She was lovely and gave us helpful advice about Svaneti, and made a different, lovely breakfast each day. Her husband kindly drove us back to the airport for free after our stay. Our room had a heater that warmed it up well, which we needed in the evenings and mornings. The bathroom could be quite cold without a heater, though with no central heating that’s difficult to change.
