The Hotel & Restaurant Memoir was a welcome find near the top of Stepantsminda. The village is currently hard to reach, with lots of huge potholes on the road after a particularly tough winter and the risk of rockfalls. The hotel itself was peaceful and well run, with helpful staff. When we arrived, someone offered to carry our two suitcases to the third floor. That came in handy, since you have to use stairs to get to the lift and again after leaving it on the third floor, which is a little odd. Our room was clean, a reasonable size, and looked out toward the mountains behind the hotel. There were several cows in one of the backyards, so we occasionally heard loud mooing during the day, though it never disturbed our sleep. The bathroom was a bit small and could use shelves, but that's a minor complaint. Breakfast in the restaurant was fine. There were lots of cooked meats and sausages, as many guests seemed to be German, but it was easy to find something appetising. We ate dinner at Memoir Restaurant twice and thought the food was fine. Portions were hearty, and the mountain air and all our walking gave us a good appetite. This hotel would fit right in in a larger, less remote town, and we recommend it without reservation.

The bathroom's foul smell lasted throughout our stay, making the room uncomfortable and ruining what should have been one of the highlights of our trip to Kazbegi. Hotel Memoir Kazbegi was an extremely disappointing place to stay, and one of our worst hospitality experiences in Georgia. Although the property may look decent in photos, the actual service was terrible. There was no hospitality from the moment we arrived, and we received no help with luggage. At checkout, we had to carry everything ourselves from the top floor. The biggest frustration was how little attention was paid to guest comfort and basic service. In a tourist destination like Kazbegi, you expect to relax and enjoy the mountains, not deal with avoidable discomfort and poor management. Nice views can't make up for bad maintenance and an unpleasant stay. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to travelers expecting comfort and proper service.

We were a family of three with a toddler, and Hotel Memoir in Kazbegi was cozy, comfortable, and worth the money. Its position gives you stunning views of the mountains, Gergeti Church, and the town below. The staff, from the person taking our order to everyone else at the hotel, were warm, friendly, and very helpful. The food was the standout: everything we tried, from breakfast through dinner, was varied, delicious, high quality, and beautifully presented. It was all freshly made in-house, with no store-bought items. Even the pepperoni pizza was made from scratch, including the thin-crust dough and pepperoni, and tasted all the better for it. There are plenty of restaurants in town, but Memoir really stands out for its food. Every meal was a delight, and we highly recommend staying here. The food, service, and location all exceeded our expectations.

For our family of five, the larger rooms were a good fit, with a small kitchenette equipped with a stove, microwave, fridge, kettle, and other basics. There are only 3 of these rooms. The hotel provided 1-2 cots for free, and extra mattresses cost a fee. We also enjoyed the huge private terrace with sofas and mountain views, as well as the large shared outdoor terrace. The staff helped us get an extra heater when we needed one. The location is good, about a 10-minute walk to the town center, and there is a hotel bar and dining, though the menu is limited. It was a decent stay with some clear drawbacks. The room and bathroom cleanliness fell short, and the bathroom was small and had an unpleasant smell. Breakfast was average, with limited fruit and juice, no live egg station, and no cappuccino or latte options. Reception staff could be more welcoming, and taxis arranged by the hotel cost nearly double normal local prices. It's family-friendly and well located, with spacious rooms and terraces, but cleanliness, breakfast, and staff hospitality need improvement.

The staff and service were spectacular, especially Giorgi at the front. This was the best value hotel in the Kazbegi region. The restaurant prices were reasonable for the location and the food was top notch. 10/10, would recommend.
