Roza Guesthouse

We knocked on Roza's door late in the evening, and she invited us in for dinner. She really did everything she could to make our stay great. The room was cozy and very warm, which mattered a lot, and we could use her kitchen to cook. The internet was okay. Roza is truly kind and knows how to make guests feel welcome.

The owner hadn't kept track of Booking reservations and didn't want to host me after I booked that same day. I parked on the public road across from the place, and he came out shouting at me. Later, while I was staying with one of his neighbours, he stormed in and shouted at the neighbour too.

Rosa and her husband Alexey made us feel like family almost as soon as we arrived. The atmosphere comes from them, and Rosa keeps the whole place cozy and tidy. There's a kitchen for guests to cook in, and the rooms, though fairly new, look like new inside. For the price Rosa charges, I honestly think it's probably the best option in Kazbegi. The long balcony is shared by the five upstairs rooms, but each has its own table and a couple of chairs. From bed, you can see Kazbek. If you want a chance of seeing that capricious mountain, get up before dawn. Later in the day it's not guaranteed. One downside seems to affect the whole area: sometimes the water runs out. The owners have a storage tank, but it needs to be turned off manually. Alexey, thanks for arranging the horseback ride. It was my first time leading a horse by myself, and it was unforgettable and really cool. Keti and my wife send their regards. We had such a lovely evening sitting around the table with your family. Thank you, we'll be back. A note to future guests: be respectful of the world around you, especially the guesthouse and its owners, and the world will reward you with a wonderful vacation.

We slept well in the clean, comfortable four-bed room, which had two single beds and a bunk bed. It cost 65 lari. There was no air conditioning or TV, but neither was a problem: the room stayed cool in the summer heat, and we didn't need a TV. The guesthouse is about a 10-minute walk from the city center. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. They can drive you up the mountain to the church or somewhere else for reasonable prices, and there's parking in the courtyard. A good budget choice for an overnight stay.
