This review is only about the restaurant. It’s part of the very simple Nikala hotel, right beside the locally well-known and quite fancy chateau Merani. If you’re after genuine Kakheti flavors, this is one of the better places to try them. The hearty, generous food doesn’t need extra reinvention, at least to my taste. The kebab, or mzvadi, is pork grilled over charcoal after marinating in onions, salt, and pepper. There’s khashlama, boiled veal, which can be surprisingly tasty despite not sounding especially appetizing, and chakapuli, lamb stewed with white qvevri wine and lots of herbs. The familiar meat dishes have a properly homey feel. Add eggplant with garlic and a big pile of freshly fried local mushrooms, then finish with chacha or keep drinking wine. You’ll leave full and satisfied, with a taste of something authentic.

The rooms were quiet and tidy, the beds comfortable, and the grounds beautiful. I felt like I was staying in Napa California. What a lovely surprise this place was. The food is first class, and the chef/owner deserves a 5 star Michelin rating. I wish he’d teach cooking lessons.

We stopped at this local restaurant on the way to Tbilisi and were pleasantly surprised. The homemade food was very good and came in generous portions. The house wine was good too, the hosts provided good service, and the prices were very reasonable.

We stayed for 1 night and will visit again. It’s a great place to relax, with amazing people. The children spent all day in the swimming pool. We asked the staff for balls to play with there, and although they didn’t have any, they brought some to us in 15 min. That was really friendly and respectful of the whole staff. Breakfast and dinner were very good too. Special thanks to Mr.Niko and Lasha. Best regards!
