His Majesty's Hotel and Apartments

We’ll remember our night at His Majesty's Hotel for a long time. The staff and thoughtful amenities made us feel well looked after, and the room had plush furnishings and a lovely view of the city skyline. We started with a romantic dinner at the hotel restaurant, where the food was delicious and the atmosphere enchanting. Walking into the grand lobby with its exquisite decor set the tone for the stay. There was lots of laughter and love that night, and it felt like a regal experience for my girlfriend and me.

I have COPD and rely on a C PAP machine to live. The building needs a lot of mechanical and electrical maintenance. When I checked in, Dennis at reception was kind, respectful, clean, and humble, and went beyond his job to make me comfortable. He tried several rooms before using an extension cord to reach a socket that only worked if left untouched. The current cut out when the cord was moved. It disconnected once before I fell into a deep sleep, and I fixed it, but I was exhausted. Later, while I was asleep, it apparently disconnected again, and I woke up nearly dead.

The hotel's forecourt, directly opposite the Ghana International Trade Fair Center, has enough room for a wedding of about 150 people. The staff there were pleasant and very helpful. Space is tight for parking, though, so guests ended up leaving their cars on the road kerb.

Events seem to be a regular feature here these days, from parties and weddings to engagements, and there’s nearly always something happening on weekends. The hotel has a good-sized plot that it rents out for these functions. It’s a nice place, though smaller than some hotels nearby, and the service is okay for its size.
