Urbano Hotel

Most of the staff were really pleasant, and breakfast had a good spread, including Lebanese treats. But I stayed in three different rooms over two weeks, and the experience varied a lot. The first room was spacious, with shelves and nice amenities. Later, I had to share a room, and it was so cramped that opening our suitcases was difficult. One room had so many problems that it badly needs maintenance. Others in my group also ran into issues with water, air conditioning, the electricity key holder, internet and towels. When sharing, we couldn’t get two keys either. Ask for a room away from the street if you need quiet, since the street-facing rooms get a lot of noise.

The staff were pleasant, but seemed clueless. Airport transfers are apparently available, though only if a driver and vehicle happen to be free, so you can’t arrange one until you’re nearly ready to leave. The rooms are cramped, and there’s only 3rd world service for 1st world prices. There was no shower mat, and the wet floor was dangerously slippery. Breakfast had run out of cereal, eggs and bread. What was left was bland stew and rice that seemed to have been sitting warm at a bacteria-friendly temperature for around two hours. I’d avoid this place.

The location is a big plus, right on Oxford Street in the middle of Accra, with shops, restaurants and nightlife all around. The staff were warm and professional from check-in through check-out, and the place felt secure. My room was on the compact side, but clean, comfortable and well kept. The bed was good and the Wi-Fi was fast. A stylish, straightforward stay with good service and a great location. I had a lovely time at Urbano Hotel.
