Bulls and Anchor Inn

The rooms at Bulls and Anchor Inn were very neat and affordable, and I enjoyed the place itself. But the staff's manner made the stay less enjoyable. On our first day, my colleague and I were heading out after checking in when the receptionist asked if I was leaving. After I said yes, she questioned whether we were running away. I had my luggage in the room, and she had only seen me carrying one bag. It felt like an inappropriate way to speak to a guest, and I wondered if she judged me because I was young. The next morning, someone from the kitchen knocked to say breakfast was ready. We went to the gym and then the pool. While we were swimming, she came over to say breakfast was ending soon. I went back to my room to change, and when my colleague arrived, she asked if we weren't having breakfast. He said he was waiting for me, but she told him to start eating and that I could join later. By the time I got to the restaurant, he had started. I asked when breakfast ended, and she said 9 am. It was nearly 9:30, and we hadn't been told that time. I later noticed a sign at the desk saying breakfast ran from 7 to 10:30 am, so I didn't understand the pressure. I felt guests weren't all being treated equally, though I can't say for sure how others were treated. One man was kind to greet me on my balcony at night and ask the next morning whether I'd managed to have breakfast. He might have been the owner or related to him. I wondered why staff couldn't show the same kind of thoughtfulness. Guests should be treated like kings and queens. The place was nice, but the staff's friendliness was lacking.

Betty made a real difference for our group. She was attentive and went out of her way to help, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and inviting. Bulls and Anchor Inn is also a handy spot, just a short walk from the beach, and the restaurant with its chef was convenient on evenings we didn't want to go out. The pool was the letdown. The cleaning supplies ran out during our eight-day stay, so it couldn't be used for the final six days. A dip would have been welcome after a hot day. We stayed in January and had a very positive visit despite that. With better pool upkeep, the place would be close to perfect.

There were frequent power problems, with the lights flickering and the AC barely working. The rooms had an odd smell too, so the air fresheners probably need changing. When everyone else on my wing had gone out and I was the only one left, they actually switched off the lights there. Maybe they were trying to save energy.

The staff had a bad attitude, and the rooms smelled awful. When I raised something I wasn't comfortable with, I was told not to come and teach them how to do their job. A terrible experience.
