African Treasure Beach Resort

The garden is lovely, and you're close to the beach. Our room was beautiful, with a huge bed, and the food was amazing too. The staff were all really nice and helpful. One tip: order food a few hours ahead so the kitchen has time to prepare it.

The girl at reception stayed with me until my car arrived, which I appreciated. But after I heard mice running through my room at midnight, I packed up and waited by the entrance to find her. While I was there, I saw more mice running out. I'd booked two nights and was travelling alone, but left at 1 am in a car back to my house in Accra. She said it had never happened before and wasn't possible, though I had seen the mice myself. I lost money, but slept better at home. For the price per night, the place doesn't measure up, and I wouldn't recommend it. They need to improve a lot.

After a six-hour drive, my 12-year-old daughter and I arrived late in the evening, tired and hungry, at the check-in time the hotel had confirmed. The receptionist told us our room had been sold because they didn't think we were coming. She seemed not to care. The only sign at reception was a badly worded “Strictly Non-Refundable Policy.” I'd booked a family room weeks ahead under a slightly different hotel name. Before the trip, I found this listing and its reviews while checking directions, so I contacted the hotel to ask if it was the same place. They said it was a different hotel and told me to cancel if I wasn't happy. I also gave them our arrival time on the day, and they confirmed it. When I pointed out that we had a confirmation, someone took us off the property and around the corner to another room. It was an apartment where people, possibly staff, were already staying and staring at us. They showed us a very small, basic bedroom with no A/C. We had booked a large family room in a hotel with A/C and the amenities it advertised, so I refused it. The woman then said she didn't want people like us staying there anyway and walked away, leaving my daughter, our luggage and me without a place to stay late at night, at a packed beach resort at Christmas. I've travelled for decades and never experienced anything so cruel. You've been warned. I believe the property uses aliases and duplicate booking site listings to hide bad reviews and mislead people. The receptionist's response, along with being booked under a slightly different name, made the whole experience feel like a scam.

The rooms and surroundings were quiet, clean and nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and did their best to make the stay more pleasant. It's a place with a feel of its own, beyond the mainstream. I enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to all beautiful souls.
