The studio we booked through Airbnb, hosted by Gail, was as described, with a lovely outdoor space and good amenities. What really made it for me, though, were the spa pools on the building’s 18th floor. Gibraltar’s beaches aren’t great, so it was nice to have a spot to stretch out in the sun. That level is adults only, while children can use the smaller pools on the 8th floor. It stays quiet and relaxing up there, with incredible views. The place is walkable from the airport and border, and there are lots of restaurants and bars nearby.

Ocean Spa Plaza is a very modern, clean block, with key card access and security staff. The spa is excellent and has staff there as well, and the pools are great too. Our apartment was a little compact, though there are larger ones in the same building.

We were promised rooftop access during our October stay, and that area would have been great for my wife while she was recovering from hip surgery. On our third day, a security guard shouted at us and humiliated us in front of other guests, saying we had no access. It was a terrifying ordeal, and our host was no help when we contacted them. Gibraltar is worth visiting, but I’d stay somewhere else.

I had a brilliant time visiting my friend in Gibraltar. The rooftop has great views, and the facilities make for a lovely, laid-back day by the pool.

I wouldn’t pay this property in advance. My stay was far from satisfactory, with several problems from the moment I arrived. The customer service was badly lacking too. When I called the front desk about the issues, the staff were dismissive and unhelpful, and offered no real solutions.
