Best Western Plus Hotel Ilulissat

The clean, comfortable rooms and breathtaking views were the best parts of our stay at Best Western Ilulissat. Breakfast was good too, and the hotel was generally well kept. But the service left a lot to be desired, and it often felt like guests were being charged for every little thing. An extra bed cost €75, and even asking for more sauce at the restaurant came with an extra charge. We couldn’t get our room key updated to access the children’s playroom, even though other guests let us in. The shuttle information was also confusing. Staff first told us to come back the next day, then to come back at 6, but we later learned the shuttle leaves at quarter past each hour. When the 8 p.m. shuttle still hadn’t arrived by 8:25, we called and were told it was dropping other guests at the airport first. We were left waiting at the harbor in 6°C weather with two small children. We asked for a late checkout since our pickup wasn’t until 8 p.m., but staff flatly said it wasn’t available during peak season. The standard checkout is already very early, at 10 a.m. Ilulissat is stunning and the hotel has potential, but management seemed to put profit ahead of guests. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We had a lovely stay, even with the sky-high prices. Breakfast on the terrace came with wonderful iceberg views, and the furnishings were cozy. The staff were helpful, though not always professional, and tour operators kept us efficiently updated with the latest information.

The rooms were clean and elegant, with a kettle, capsule coffee machine, slippers, and bathrobe. There’s also a playroom for children, and the food in the rooftop restaurant was extremely good, though extremely expensive. Two large food shops are near the hotel, and Akiki supermarket, the cheapest in GL, is about a seven-minute walk away. It’s about a ten-minute walk to most places and twenty minutes to the harbors. The price felt worth it. A free bus to the airport runs every 15 minutes, and you can also contact the hotel to arrange a shuttle around your flight.

The breakfast was excellent, and the staff, like most Greenlandic people, were lovely. The rooms are small, and in our room the bedside lights, Chromecast, and charging points weren’t working. We were first given a ground-floor room looking out at a shed. It’s a nice hotel, but at that price I expect the things in the room to work.
