Ulrika Hotel

We were lucky to find this hotel open in the off-season when our ferry was unexpectedly canceled for two days and we were stranded. Eric, his father, and the staff made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. A special thank you to the staff member who checked us in very late and made sure we were settled. Their kindness turned a stressful travel problem into a really positive memory. If you want to feel treated like family on Aegina island, this is the place.

A lovely spot to rest and catch up on sleep, close to the ferry, the beach, and an archaeological site. The room was very nice and had a little veranda. Check-in was at Plaza Hotel, and Yanni even carried our bags upstairs on his scooter. So friendly and helpful.

I left after two nights and found a much better room elsewhere for the same price, with a balcony and sea view. The rooms here felt basic, old-fashioned, and outdated, the bathroom was tiny, and the shower wasn't great. My room smelled like an old ashtray. I asked the grandfather at reception at Plaza Hotel around 10 a.m. to have the cleaning lady spray some air freshener. When I returned at 2 p.m., nothing had been done and the smell was still there. I was disappointed because the family had sounded lovely in our emails before my arrival. Erik had offered to collect my luggage from the port because I have a torn meniscus. I told him I'd let him know nearer the date how my knee was, but after a long trip from France that morning, with a flight, Athens metro, weather-related ferry cancellations, and finally a hydrofoil, my knee was bad and I accepted his offer. He wasn't at the port when I arrived, then told me he'd emailed his number, which wasn't true. He also didn't send an email with his phone number. I never asked for his full attention. The information I got was inaccurate too. Erik told me the cross throwing would be between 9 and 10 a.m., but a local I asked the day before the festival said 11 a.m. I would have waited outside in the cold for 1-2 hours if I hadn't checked. I was also told there was a Friday ferry from Aegina to Poros, which was wrong. No local advice was given at check-in. Erik offered me an upgrade, which I kindly declined. He had sent five emails before I arrived, not ten. Thank you for your reply. From the reviews, it seems that when someone leaves less than five stars, you answer at length and have a bit of a go at them. Your reply was a joke. Your emails made the family sound caring, but that wasn't my experience. It was the opposite.

We had a good night's sleep in a spacious three-bed room with plenty of closet space, a TV, kettle, cups, a lovely garden-view balcony, and a bathroom that felt luxurious by Greek standards. The beds were good too. We stayed for one night at the end of November 2025, and were welcomed warmly at Plaza Hotel near Avra Beach. Because I have a walking disability, the man recommended room 3 at Ulrika’s, which was just three steps up, then led us there on his scooter. He showed us around, explained everything, and gave us a postcard and bottle of water. He even asked whether we needed slippers. The room, service, and short walk to the port and centre all made a good impression. We visit Aegina often and will certainly come back.
