In mid-July I phoned to book two twin rooms for mid-August. They told me the reservation was confirmed and there was nothing to worry about. A few days later, I emailed to ask for more information and was told the rooms hadn't been booked after all. They had given them to other guests who booked through Booking. Very unprofessional.

Cross the little bridge over the river and walk a bit farther along the beach to find this authentic beach bar and restaurant in Agia Galini. It has more of a rock-n-roll feel than the other spots. The tomato salad was great, the meatballs perfect, and the vegetarian stuffed peppers were nice too. Don't miss the tasty herbal chips.

The room was spacious and had a terrace, though there were a couple of daily annoyances. With no shower door or curtain, we ended up making a bit of a water ballet each day. The kitchen had only one outlet, so we had to take turns plugging in the fridge and kettle. It's a charming hotel right on the pebble beach, with sunbeds and a nice taverna. We liked it much more than the more authentic-feeling restaurants on the boulevard across the bridge.

A lovely quiet place with great staff. Agia Galini's lively town is easy to reach if you want to be closer to the action. I'll come back.
