# 6 Giorgos & Chara apartments

The dogs were very trusting and let us pet them, which made what we saw even more upsetting. They were kept in a cage down the driveway, neglected and tied on short leashes that left them hardly able to move. They barked a lot, and we saw they were lying in their own poop with very dirty water that looked as if it hadn’t been changed for at least a week. In this heat, that’s unreasonable. We only found them on the day we were leaving. We confronted the owners, who cleaned the cages a little and were very unfriendly to us. As I understand it, Greek law prohibits this kind of treatment, so I’d ask future guests to report it to the police if they’re there. We’re also trying to contact animal welfare projects, and I’ll do my best to inform animal welfare workers on Crete. It’s terrible to see innocent creatures treated this way. No money should go to people who treat them like this. Never again. I hope the dogs can be helped.
