Coral Beach Hotel

We weren’t hotel guests, just walking along Agia Marina beach looking for somewhere to swim and a free sunbed. There are plenty of free ones along the beach, and nowhere did we see a sign saying these required payment or an order. We put our things down and went in the water. When we came back, a man appeared and spoke to me aggressively, raising his voice first in Greek. I asked him to speak English, since I couldn’t understand. He kept asking, “Do you think this is free?” and said the beds belonged to the hotel and we had to order something in exchange. I agreed that was no problem and said we’d order, but he only calmed down a bit after I’d said it several times. We then had to go upstairs to the hotel bar to pay, because card payment was only available there. We’d have happily eaten something, but the way we were treated made us lose trust in the place. I wouldn’t recommend it. If the staff act like this, I can only imagine other things could go wrong too. This could have been handled civilly, or the hotel could put up a clearly visible sign explaining the sunbeds aren’t free.

We’ve been back many times and are looking forward to another visit this year. We haven’t stayed at the hotel, but the beach bar and pool are lovely. The food is great, and the staff and service are lovely too.

My wife and I spent 10 days at Coral Beach Hotel in October, and we loved the setting by the beach. The hotel sits slightly raised, with a lovely warm, well-kept pool, pool bar, and restaurant. The food was good and reasonably priced. Our room was clean and nice, and the maids changed up the sheets each day, making hearts or flowers during the daily service. There’s a beautiful beach and plenty to do, with Chania nearby on the regular local bus. The people were lovely. Like so many others, we’ll be back xxx
