The beach was fantastic, shallow and great for children. Everything is conveniently close together too, with the rooms, pool, beach, and restaurant all nearby. I was very satisfied overall; the excellent rooms, lovely pool and beach, and good on-site dining outweighed the frustrations with added charges. If the hotel eased up on some of the fees, it would feel like a truly generous resort. The rooms were bright, modern, lovely, and had kitchen facilities for preparing meals. The hotel restaurant was excellent, with a wide range of dishes. The pool was very clean and kid-friendly, with free loungers. Towel service needed a €10 deposit, then €2 was deducted per towel as a service fee, which felt unnecessary. On the hotel’s private beach, loungers cost €7 each, which seemed steep for hotel guests. Beach bar drinks were standardly priced, so the costs added up quickly. It felt like many of the charges were there to increase the hotel’s revenue.

We keep coming back to Golden Bay Hotel for its lovely setting, perfect beach, and well-run bar and restaurant with the best staff. So far, so good. Still, it surprises us that a three-star hotel can’t provide proper towels or paper for drying your hands after using the toilet by the pool. Why is there only toilet paper for guests at such a lovely hotel?

This was very disappointing. The room advertised as a “semi-basement” was completely underground, down around 20 steps, and damp and smelly. The furniture was worn and old, the sheets had just been tossed on the bed, and the fridge was broken. Housekeeping and towel changes happened only every 3-4 days, never on Sundays, and reception wouldn’t give us clean towels. Nearly everything came at an extra cost, including beach towels, sunbeds, and umbrellas. The pool was unsupervised and open to anyone. The room looked nothing like the photos or description, and our holiday was ruined. To top it off, we had to pay the city tax in CASH 😂😂. Is it really going to the authorities? I nearly forgot, there was a receptionist and one cleaning lady on staff, for this huge hotel 🥲.

The hotel restaurant was amazing, with affordable prices and really tasty meals. The rooms are spacious, nicely furnished, and each has a balcony or patio. There’s enough separation to get a bit of space from the kids when you need it :) The pool in the middle has a section for little ones, and its depth increases gradually from 110-150cm. The beach is right beside the hotel, with sunbeds available. The water is shallow, warms up fast, and lets kids play in the waves when it’s windy. We wanted a cozy, affordable place with easy access to the beach and pool for our kids, and this ticks all the boxes. A few things could be added to the room: a broom for sweeping sand, a sponge for washing dishes, a dishcloth or paper towels, and coat hangers for hats and jackets. For the price, it’s a blast for families with kids. We’ll be back!
