Speires suites

I spent a week at Speires Suites and loved the view from my superior double room, the comfortable bed, and the great art on the walls. It was always very clean. I also appreciated having a ceiling fan so I didn’t have to rely only on the aircon. Alexandra and the rest of the staff were really friendly and helpful. I had dinner twice, and the pasta and pinsas were delicious. The wine list was great, and I enjoyed the music, too. Hopefully I’ll be back!

We had a relaxing three days, with lovely views over the harbor. Alexandra made us feel welcome and went out of her way to create a nice atmosphere and provide great service. Breakfast in the quiet garden overlooking the sea was a lovely way to start the day. We visited early in the season, so the island was quiet, and some hills are part of getting around. Everyone was friendly and helpful. More restaurants and bars would have opened a few weeks later, but the ones we found open were great.

Speires was such a peaceful, relaxing place, and I’d happily recommend it. Alexandra and the team were super friendly, with helpful suggestions for things to do and places to eat in Iraklia. They also picked us up from the port and dropped us back when we left, which made traveling with luggage easy. Our room was roomy, comfortable, nicely decorated, and had a great balcony view. The hotel restaurant had lovely views too, and breakfast was delicious. It felt like a little piece of heaven. I hope we can visit again.

The island itself is amazing, and the people there are great, but staying at Speires was a bad experience for us. The facilities looked fine in the photos, yet the owners showed no hospitality. Cleaning and regular toilet paper replacement were below par, and thank goodness we had wet wipes. Breakfast was extremely pricey, so we didn’t try it, especially after finding other places with great food, huge portions, and good prices. There was a strong sewage smell in the hotel facilities that we didn’t notice anywhere else on the island. We also had tons of bugs and no screens on the windows. They didn’t provide bottled water, but charged us for the three bottles we asked for. It wasn’t worth the price, and compared with everyone else on the island, the owners had a horrible attitude and were rude. They seemed money hungry.
