Poppy Villas

We stayed in room 11 and, after a few nights, had to leave and find emergency accommodation for the rest of our holiday. The location is lovely, but our stay was badly disrupted. I have never, in my 47 years, encountered such an unprofessional host. The woman running the place was hostile from the start, left notes telling us what we could and couldn’t do, and made us feel watched. She became extremely angry when we moved the sofa so we could see the TV. We were clean, quiet and friendly. She also objected to us using the AC because it leaked onto the terrace below. That seemed like a plumbing issue, not something caused by us using it. It was 32 degrees at night, so sleeping without AC wasn’t an option. We’re a mixed-race couple, and we wondered if that was the reason for her attitude, though we can’t know. The room had several problems. The bedroom was small, and its door wouldn’t close unless we moved the beds, which would then hit the side table. A socket was hanging off the bedroom wall. The bathroom was tiny, with a basin so small that water and toothpaste ended up on the floor. The shower doors kept coming off, and the basin smelled of sewage. The front room and kitchen were okay, but the kitchen was very small. The fridge was far too small for the price and either froze our food or left everything too warm. There was a dangerous socket beside the kitchen sink, and the kettle was broken and wouldn’t switch off, a fire hazard. There are awkward steps throughout the room. I nearly broke my foot just walking to the bathroom, and getting to the bedroom meant going up two large steps. The steps down the hill to the road are badly made and easy to trip on. The loose wooden handrail makes them feel dangerous. The pool was nice, but its plastic mesh fence blocked the sea and mountain views. It was very windy, and after half an hour outside it became unpleasant. The outdoor seating area has lovely views, though the wind and neighbours in apartments above and beside it take away from the privacy. The place is clean enough when we stayed, and we only accidentally broke two glasses in the high winds, which we replaced. We didn’t break anything else or leave a mess. I expect the owner may reply accusing us of damage or mess, as she has done to other reviewers. Her replies use exclamation marks and capital letters, so read the low-rated reviews carefully. The steps from the road also need attention; if you want to risk injuring yourself, try them. The location was the one good thing for us, but our holiday was badly affected and we had to find somewhere else at short notice. Thankfully, our new accommodation was lovely and the owners were kind. To the owner: when guests complain, you’ve told others to go to kindergarten and learn manners. You should take your own advice. From the heart, please read the reviews carefully and avoid Poppy Villas. We wish we had. Best wishes to anyone who finds this helpful.
