Thomas Bay Hotel

The room was a mess of old, worn furniture, with threadbare bedding and curtains, and dust everywhere even after the cleaners had been in. I asked for a double bed but got two singles pushed together. The room was damp and musty, with a dehumidifier using one of only three sockets. A table-top fridge sat on the floor, out of reach for me. The thermometer was shockingly tiny. Air conditioning cost 10 euros a day, which is shocking too. I asked for a ground-floor room because of my disabilities, but the person at reception, who struck me as strange and a bit creepy, led me down some steps to what people call the dungeon. The shower was borderline dangerous, suddenly running boiling hot without touching the dial. There was no bathroom mat, so we had to put a towel on the floor. The hair dryer looked like something from the 50s and was useless. We’d paid for bed and breakfast, but cooked breakfast cost another 5 euros each. I can’t see how this place has any stars. Please avoid it.

Nico's cocktails were amazing, and the staff made the holiday memorable. They were so friendly, always smiling, and nothing was too much trouble. The whole hotel was super clean and there was entertainment every night. I’ve just come back from a fantastic holiday at The Thomas Bay Hotel. It was sad to leave, but I’ll definitely be back! The hotel is pleasant in the daytime, with a nice pool, plenty of sunbeds and a lovely garden. Staff at Thomas bay hotel are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and adequate. Breakfast is basic: boiled egg, cereal, toast, yogurt, fruit, orange juice, tea or coffee. There are several tavernas nearby, plus a bus stop, though the bus service is unreliable. The beach is walkable, and Corfu Town is about 1 hour 45 minutes away. I wouldn’t return. Nights were incredibly loud, with entertainment blaring until around 3 a.m. every night. One night my watch recorded only 46 minutes of sleep. Sleep deprivation is dreadful, and the noise ruined my holiday. I was so tired that I missed the last steps down to the public facilities, fell, and bruised my leg and other areas, leaving me limping. If you want a relaxing evening, don’t go to Thomas bay hotel.

The location and staff earn the two stars. The hotel is well placed, surrounded by great restaurants and bars, and the staff are lovely. But don’t be taken in by the four-star reviews or Jet 2’s upselling. I found the rooms on the higher floors much nicer than those on the lower floors, which seasoned travellers I met often called “The Dungeons.” I was put in one of those rooms. It was dated, worn and uncared for, a real shame. It was clean, but there was no comfort: the bed felt like a slab of concrete, there were no tea or coffee facilities, and the place needs serious renovation from top to bottom. I was told air conditioning would cost €10 per day. I’d paid for breakfast, but on arrival they said a cooked breakfast would cost €3.50 extra. I don’t know who owns the hotel, but as someone who’s travelled extensively, I can say they’re not very good at it. I’d never stay here again or recommend it to an average holidaymaker, maybe only to students or people used to hostels.
