Archontiko Mary

I didn't stay at this hotel, though I did try to book. Mary, the owner, discouraged me and eventually told me I should stay in Naxos. I was hoping for one night on Paros to attend a family wedding, while visiting my mother in Naxos. She repeatedly asked me, "who I was," as if my name and credit card weren't enough to make a simple reservation. I explained that I was from Canada and wanted to attend my cousin's wedding, but she kept asking the same strange question. When I finally asked whether she wanted to rent me a room, she again said it would be better for me to stay in Naxos. I've never before been turned away when trying to rent a hotel room, and I still shake my head thinking about it. Where I'm from, we bend over backwards to give customers the service they want and more. We're Canadian after all, that's what we do best. The story ended well: my mother and I found another small place nearby with excellent service and a friendly, courteous owner who even picked us up at the port for free. I can't say what Mary's Archondiko hotel itself would have been like, but this may say something about the owner's approach to public relations and customer service. Anna from Canada.
