The room had enough space for two, strong AC, and a great balcony view. Parking was easy, and the location was decent, about 11 minutes by car from Heraklion. The bathroom was quite small. I'm 175cm tall and 80kg, not especially big, but the toilet was tucked into such a tight corner that sitting there was difficult. The fridge's freezer compartment had no door to keep it cold, so there wasn't a proper freezer. We stayed 4 days and the cleaners came only once, which I didn't find enough. At the previous hotel, cleaning was offered 6 days a week, for almost the same price.

The panoramic sea view from our room was stunning, and we spent ages enjoying it. The location is incredible, and the friendly staff were always ready to help with a smile. They really made us feel welcome and helped make the stay special. The hotel has a bit of retro charm, but the decor and furnishings could use a modern refresh. Wi-Fi in our room was unreliable, so we often had to go down to the lobby for a good connection. We still had a fantastic time, and with some investment and upgrades, this place could be a gem.

I had lunch at the hotel's beach restaurant. The main dining area is indoors next to the hotel, while the popular section is outside, across a narrow access road right on the beachfront. The extensive menu included salads, fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes. I chose the mixed seafood salad with a small beer. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the service was prompt.

Aptera Beach Hotel is a good fit if you're after a quiet beach holiday. It's within walking distance of Aptera beach and the Aegean Sea, but a fair way from central Heraklion. It took around 30 minutes to get to the city center, so you'll need to rely on taxis, buses, or a rental car to reach city amenities and main attractions. If you plan to go into Heraklion often, factor in the travel time and cost, or consider somewhere else. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and made us feel welcome within our first few hours on the island. We tried the strawberry smoothie and really liked it. We didn't eat at the restaurant, so can't speak to the food, though the range of drinks suggests similar care in the dining options.
