Porfyron

Breakfast was a generous feast every day, served on the terrace under the grapevines and among the lilies. I had dinner here one night too, and it was one of the best meals of my trip, made with love and fresh local ingredients. Porfyron is full of artistry and soul, tucked into quiet Ano Pedina but centrally placed for day trips around the Zagori. Rita and Yiannis have lovingly restored this characterful place, and their hospitality made me feel cared for and at home. If you want to experience quiet village life, this is a wonderful spot. There’s even an adorable dog!

We spent a few days here, trekking through the UNESCO protected park and the mountain villages of Zagori, and it all felt like a beautiful dream. The family’s hospitality, the cozy warmth of the lodge, and the delightful food made the stay so lovely. We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner and can’t wait to return in spring or summer.

This place grew on me, and the longer I stayed, the more I sank into the slow pace of Ano Pedina. It’s a family-run hotel in a quaint, quiet village, with a lovely garden and a breathtaking building. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I booked, though I’d read plenty of good reviews. The spacious rooms have antique touches, a great shower, and a good bed. I loved the fresh breakfast. Their son gives you five-star treatment in the restaurant. Mister Giannis is calm, whether in the garden or cooking wonderful dishes. Rita’s warmth, her love for Greece and the area, and her knowledge of plants are contagious. I’ll be back 💙

Nights were completely quiet, and the garden was romantic, full of roses, cherries, and kittens. The food was extraordinary, from breakfast to the lovely three-course dinners, which were better than any taverna we tried. There’s an excellent wine list too. The old-fashioned rooms have been restored beautifully, and it feels like staying in an authentic family hotel where you’re cared for like family, with the comforts you remember from childhood. A true paradise.
