We found it easy to reach Heraklion, nearby hiking, and wineries from Carpe Diem. If you’re driving, ask the hotel which access road is easiest and where to park. The building has been restored with obvious care and thought. The owners were very hospitable, and we enjoyed getting to know them during our fantastic two-night stay. Breakfast on the terrace was homemade, delicious, and peaceful. A one-of-a-kind place that I’d highly recommend.

We found Carpe Diem by chance after deciding to skip Herakleion’s touristy, overpriced center and stay in Archanes. This is a premium hotel and one of the best-quality stays I’ve had. Eleni’s hospitality adds so much to the experience, beyond her professionalism as a host. We booked another visit for the off-season right after our first stay. Don’t miss the breakfast.

We spent two nights in Allagi. The village-center location is excellent, and Eleni is lovely. Our room was clean and spacious, and the kitchen worked well for making breakfast.

Eleni’s breakfast, with local ingredients and incredible pastries, is delicious and will keep you going all day. She and her husband are delightful and do their best to make you feel at home. They’ve done a great job renovating and decorating the old town house into a comfortable little hotel. We received a lovely welcome and had a great stay. It’s an ideal base for exploring central Crete.

Carpe Diem is a great choice for a relaxing holiday. The rooms are very well cared for and recently renovated with real style, and the welcome is warm. Breakfast is very good too. It’s in beautiful Archanes, where there are plenty of excellent restaurants. I recommend it to everyone.
