The peaceful early swims were a highlight, just a few steps from our room. We also loved the rich breakfast, served without the fuss of a buffet, and the many picturesque corners where we could read quietly. Free watersport equipment was available in such variety that it persuaded us to try things we normally wouldn't. Staff noted our food allergies on the first day, and we never had to remind them again. Limeni was still crowded in the last week of August, with some beach noise and swimmers picnicking near the lower terrace and its sunbeds. Inside Hotel Pirgos Mavromichali, though, we felt tucked away from the crowds, with our own sunbeds and gated beach access. The guardians take guest-only access seriously, even at dinner when the restaurant has a perfect sunset view. Staff also helped us manage the tricky parking, which let us relax. We spent three nights in this beautifully renovated historic building, looking for quiet luxury with a connection to local people, food and history. The property’s beauty and quality, and the guardians’ attentiveness and friendliness, exceeded our expectations. We were greeted personally on the street when we arrived, and at the end the owner put our luggage in the car. We hope to return to Pirgos Mavromichali. At this price level, we haven't found another place in Greece that brings luxury, service, history and quality together so seamlessly.

We booked the Sea Suite, which had its own terrace and sunbeds, though there are enough sunbeds for all guests and the view of Limeni is fantastic. The centuries-old building is full of charm and has been kept to a very high standard, evident as soon as you enter. Our room was clean and private, and the staff gave us amazing service. A tip for unloading: park next to the Pirgos Mavromichali sign before the hotel entrance, then take your luggage from there. The one-way cobblestone street is tight and busy, and parking takes some navigating.

The manager's dismissive, hostile manner made our stay stressful instead of relaxing, and the security situation worried us. We came back once to find the door and window wide open, and there was no safe in the room. We were there for three nights in Room 5, which opened onto a public sunbathing area and road, so it offered little privacy. Keeping the windows and doors shut made it dark and stuffy. The AC also failed at night, though staff said there wasn't a problem. We wouldn't return and suggest looking elsewhere.

The included breakfast was amazing, and the staff were so kind and went out of their way to make the stay fantastic. My special requests before arrival were all taken care of, with even more effort on top of that. The room was clean and had a fantastic view. Direct beach access and free beach equipment, including a paddle board, made it extra special. This is easily the best hotel I've stayed at in Greece, a five-star experience from a four-star hotel. We spoke with the manager at the restaurant and beach club next door, who said it's the best place to stay in Limeni. Do yourself a favor and stay as long as you can.
