Update for 2023: We had stayed in this room three times before, but 2023 was our first visit under the new management. Only the walls and location felt the same. The room and the way it was managed had gone downhill so much that, sadly, I’ve changed my earlier 5-star rating to 2. At the price being asked now, it’s no longer worth it. The cupboard for our clothes was dusty when we arrived, and there was mold in the shower. Dirt had built up on all the visible parts that were harder to reach, something we’d never encountered here before. When we raised it with the person responsible, he dismissed our feedback straight away, saying the room was cleaned daily. We then contacted the booking agent. The shower mold was gone the next day, which made the cleaning between guests seem very poor, or possibly nonexistent. We stayed 7 nights. In previous years we expected the towels and sheets to be changed twice, but this time they were changed after the second night and then left for the remaining 5 days. I’m not asking for a daily change, but if the policy is one change a week, doing it halfway through would make sense. We ran out of toilette papers on the third day. When we contacted the person responsible, he brought some and said they normally leave enough. Why did we have to ask, then, if the room was cleaned daily? Both our phones remembered the Wi-Fi, but neither could connect this year. The person responsible thought it was probably an issue with our devices. After several attempts, the router was finally removed, and the room didn’t have internet for a single second. We were on holiday and didn’t really mind, but something that used to work had stopped working. It’s a case study in how lazy, uncaring cleaning staff and poor supervision can ruin an established level of quality and a good relationship. We arrived with high expectations and left very disappointed. We’ll keep coming to Astypalleia, just to a different room. 2019 - 2021: You don’t usually want to spend much time in your room on holiday, but this place was different. We got the good news of a room upgrade, and the room had just the right size and style, plus an amazing view (*). Everything was brand new, clean, stylish, and well designed. We loved the modern, minimal decor and the extremely comfortable bed. Lovely toiletries and luxury linen made us feel even more Spoiled! Check what’s provided before packing, so you don’t bring things that will already be in the room. The kitchen and batchroom were very well equipped with everything. If you’re a Nespresso fan, bring extra capsules! Breakfast came to the room on time each morning. It was basic, mostly pastries, but enough to start the day while enjoying the fantastic balcony view. The room was cleaned daily, and they offered late check out, which made our long trip back much easier. We really enjoyed our stay and will return to be Spoiled again! *The great view means some uphill walking, but it’s worth it.
