Parthenon Hotel Athens, Vassilicos House of Hospitality

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and our room at the back was very quiet. Breakfast was generous and relaxed, and the hotel was clean and comfortable. The location is excellent at the southern end of the Plaka, just steps from the Acropolis Museum, the Metro station, and the Acropolis side entrance. I’d recommend it for the location and helpful staff. Some details were less appealing: the hotel’s 1970s take on “modern” feels a little dated, the TV is small and doesn’t support Roku or Chromecast, and the huge old-style bathtub could be hard to step into for a shower if you’re older. Our “Queen” was two single beds pushed together, which was odd but comfortable. The WiFi was strong, but the network had no password, though it seemed to use a VPN. The front desk told me the hotel would close in October 2026 for a much-needed full renovation.

The location was the best part: two minutes from acropolis, with lots of restaurants and shops around, and the area felt very safe. The beds were cozy and comfortable, and the AC worked wonders. Our room was a good size and had everything we needed. The only problem was the neighbors above and next to us. They slammed doors so loudly that it often woke us during the night. We arrived well before check-in after a long night of travel, and the front desk let us into the room very early. The welcome was so kind, and the staff shared lots of useful tips and information about the area. Breakfast was much better and more delicious than we expected. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, and I’d recommend this hotel 100%.

The room was pretty basic, and the other aspects were just okay at best. The door lock, though, was making me furious. I’m writing this from inside the room because I couldn’t figure out that awful system. There were no labels, instructions, or indicators, and I spent hours trying everything. At first I thought I was being dumb, but once I figured it out, the little key thing at the bottom was barely loose. Even then, opening the door took what felt like five hours and both hands. I tried again later and it still wouldn’t open. This door sucks. Sorry for the rant, but I rate the rooms zero just because of that door. It’s not a special hotel, but I would’ve given it 3.5 stars otherwise. Whoever made this lock should be fired, and even that doesn’t feel like enough.

The hotel was comfortable and had a very good breakfast buffet. Its location was fantastic, on a small side street but right in the middle of the tourist attractions. We could walk to the acropolis, monastiri, and the shopping area. Definitely recommend it.
