The one thing I liked was that the room was clean. Beyond that, this was a horrible stay, especially on the first day. Another guest was in my room because, she said, the owner hadn’t told her which room was hers, and she couldn’t reach them by phone. There was nobody from staff or the owner available to sort it out. Every number, even the emergency one, went to an automated recording. The owners weren’t available at the property or by phone, didn’t check in with guests on arrival, and didn’t reply when I wrote about an issue with the bathroom faucet. It had no cold water. The place is far from the metro, with little nearby beyond a food court about a five-minute walk away. There was a foul smell, possibly sewage or something, and I couldn’t stay in the room without the air conditioner on. The room looked dated, and the furniture and other items seemed cheap and mismatched. There was no complimentary water bottle, and the water tasted bad, so I had to buy some at a nearby supermarket. It felt like the owners just wanted to make money without being available or fixing anything. I’ll never book a stay like this again. I’d rather choose an Airbnb or a proper hotel with a help desk. Athens didn’t feel safe to me either, and I worried that if I were robbed, I wouldn’t get help from the hotel. Worst stay I’ve had, despite having stayed in numerous hotels around Asia and Europe.

Getting there from the airport was easy enough by subway. We got off at “ST.Syngrou-Fix”, and someone met us outside, showed us in, and handed over the keys. Check-in was very relaxed. It’s basically a shared home, with a full kitchen and shared bathroom. The Acropolis is about a 15-20 minute walk away, and the price was fantastic. We enjoyed our stay.

There’s a common kitchen with the essentials, and depending on which room you get, the toilet and shower are shared and separated for men and women. The doors don’t block much sound, so you hear people coming and going. Beds were decent, and the place was clean and comfortable in a fairly quiet neighborhood. The nearest metro is a convenient 5-10 minute walk away, with bars, restaurants, and kiosks nearby. It’s also easy to walk to and from central Athens.

It’s cheap and the comfort is okay, but I wouldn’t stay here if you’re a light sleeper. The neighbors woke me at 4am, switched on a light that made my room seem as bright as daytime, and slammed the door several times. I could hear them snoring and talking loudly, along with the bathroom noises.

There’s a nightlife area about a five-minute walk away, on Geor. Olimpiou street, with some interesting restaurants and cafes. The host is really kind and can offer tips. Alegria house is a building divided into rooms in the heart of Athens, about a 20-minute walk from the Acropolis. My room was cozy and had its own bathroom, and check-in was automatic with a PIN. Have fun!
