Minimal Luxury near Acropolis

I checked in at 8 PM on my first visit to Athens, unpacked, put my clothes in the closet, and went out for dinner. I got back around 11 and went straight to bed because I had an early start. Around 2 AM, I woke with tingling on my arm. Turning on the light, I found what I later identified as bed bugs in the bed. I had never seen them before and at first thought they were little cockroaches. I showed photos at reception, where they apologized and moved me to another room. After checking photos and videos online, I was certain they were bed bugs. I looked through my open suitcase and clothes and found one had already got into my bag. I went back to ask for a refund so I could leave, since this was a serious infestation issue. They refused. I then asked to move rooms and leave my luggage aside so I could sleep safely, but they refused that too. Instead, they tried to convince me they weren't bed bugs, or that if they were, I must have brought them in myself. It was 3 AM, I was exhausted, and I spent the night in the reception area because I didn't feel safe in any room. The next morning I asked them to heat-treat or air-dry my clothes and bags at 50°C so I wouldn't take bed bugs home. They agreed but never did it. They wouldn't refund or compensate me, and did nothing to fix the situation. They said they would clean all the rooms, but when I came back later, mine was just as I had left it, with my clothes and bags still on the bathroom floor. I travel internationally very often, and this was by far my worst hotel experience. I had to wash all my clothes and bags myself in boiling water, then spent the following nights feeling paranoid and unable to sleep properly. Bed bugs are a serious issue and shouldn't be dismissed. I've filed an official complaint and hope the hotel gets properly inspected. Anyone thinking of staying here should know that I encountered a full bed bug infestation during my stay.

The location takes a little effort to find, and it's up a hill, but the hotel is beautiful and close to the Athens tourist areas. The restaurant has a great view of the Acropolis. My bedroom was gorgeous and spacious, with lovely decor and bedding, and I loved the bed. The marble walls and floor in the bathroom looked beautiful, and the shower had perfect water temperature. Everything was lovely.

For the price, this was very good. I booked a single room and it suited what I needed. The bed was really comfortable, it was quiet and clean, breakfast was included, the service was friendly, and there was a nice roof terrace. The sites were within a 20-minute walk. Getting there means tackling a short hill with luggage, the shower is tiny, the safe wouldn't work, and the balcony was too small to sit on.

It's a bit small and sits on a steep hill, but it's been great for anyone happy to walk a few minutes to reach some really good places to eat. The area is quieter and has much less foot traffic than other hotel areas.
