Neratzia Rooms

The neighborhood is diverse, with the sights close enough to reach while still giving you a local feel. Neratzia rooms has just four rooms on the first and second floors above a café owned by Yannis. He was excellent about communicating, made us feel welcome, and was resourceful and always available on WhatsApp. The café has a lively atmosphere, superb food, and some of the kindest staff we met on our retired trip in Greece. Locals regularly come in for the breakfast, which they provide. The rooms were ample, modern, stylish, and had everything we wanted. We’re looking forward to seeing our host again, eating at his café, and staying in the rooms. A couple of things to keep in mind: there’s no elevator, though a staff member can help with large luggage. The café stays busy until 1 AM, so a top floor room gives you more distance from the noise. We slept without trouble, and earplugs are provided by the bed for light sleepers. Great host, amazing breakfast, wonderful rooms.

We had breakfast there once, and it was delicious. We missed it the other two mornings because we had to leave before 8am one day and didn’t leave enough time to sit down and order from the menu the other. Yannis communicated well on WhatsApp and arranged taxis to and from the airport. Our upstairs balcony room, room A2, was very nice, with an updated bathroom, roomy shower, and strong water pressure. The bed was comfortable. We chose the spot for its walking access to the Acropolis and the metro station, where we picked up a rental car the next day. Lycabettus Hill Funicular was about a 45 minute walk. The restaurant downstairs and city traffic made it a little loud, but earplugs were thoughtfully provided. We’d stay again.

The staff were really friendly, and my room was spotless. Breakfast was lovely too, with dishes you could choose from the menu. It’s at least a 15-minute walk to Athens’ main tourist sights, but that also means the neighborhood feels less touristy, which I liked.

Breakfast was the real standout for me: such good taste and quality, with plenty of choice, especially for the very reasonable price of the stay. I also found the staff warm, welcoming, and naturally friendly. Hotel Neratsia was the most pleasant surprise of my trip to Athens. The room was spacious, beautiful, and comfortable from the moment I walked in. I’d happily return and recommend it. 10/10.
