Alex was available whenever we needed him, day or night, and his hospitality was second to none. He stocked the fridge with fresh fruit, drinks, and wine, and we had daily cleaning. We also chose the excellent breakfast package at the harbor each morning. My parents surprised us and our children with this stay in Chania during our annual departure from Greece this summer. We stayed in Alex’s beautifully decorated traditional house, set in a lovely courtyard right beside ancient and WWII ruins. It was pure beauty among the ruins. Each morning over coffee, I imagined the Cretans who had lived in those places long ago, and felt the history around us. The Old Port of Chania was three blocks away, opening onto another world shaped by Greek, Venetian, and Muslim history. We highly recommend the accommodation and will absolutely stay again whenever we’re in Crete. Ten stars! Sincerely, Korina, daughter of Tassos and Monica.

The old town location was ideal, and the little yard outside was full of plants and remarkably quiet for somewhere so central in Chania. We had a comfortable apartment with a spacious bedroom, separate kitchen, and bathroom. Our host was helpful with every question and pointed us toward some really good restaurants that weren't more expensive. Thanks for a lovely stay. We'd definitely come back to Chania.

Alex was one of the best hosts we've had. The rooms were very clean, and the hotel is right in the middle of Chania, yet it wasn't too noisy. Finding public parking nearby was difficult.

Please be careful about staying here. After my cousin and I politely asked to use the bathroom, Alex, the owner of Kasteli, spoke rudely to us and then verbally insulted us. We left to find a bathroom elsewhere. Later, as I walked past the property to get back to my car, he started yelling at me again. After that second confrontation, I reached my car a block or two away, and Alex and a younger man followed me. They swung a baseball bat at my head without warning. I managed to block it with my arm, which was fortunate because it could have been broken. People nearby checked on me, and the police came. Alex tried to lie to them, but witnesses explained what had happened. The officers told me they knew him and had dealt with problems involving him before, including trouble with neighbors. They also said he was unstable and took medication to stay stable. I was told Alex would go to jail for assaulting me. I hope people don't support this business. A verbal disagreement about a bathroom should never turn violent; he chose to chase and attack me instead of handling it another way. I have photos of Alex and the police just before his arrest, my swollen arm, and a video. In both photos, the owner and the man who attacked me are wearing blue shirts.
