Doma Hotel

I came in by chance while looking for a hotel in the old town, then stayed May 15-22, 2024 in the top-floor penthouse. The terrace had a magnificent 270-degree view over the old harbor, city, bay, and mountains. From the middle of the three rooms, looking out toward the Mediterranean, I started imagining where I’d put my secretaire bookcase and furniture. I met both Koutsoudakis sisters, the hotel’s owners, one lovely evening. I understand they sadly both passed away this week. They gave me the hotel booklet and told me the impressive story of their lives, starting in early childhood. If you’re after a historic place to stay, this is it.

We loved waking up to the peaceful sea view at Doma Hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was lovely, and the ladies serving it were especially warm and kind. The staff were the real highlight, helping us get taxis every day with a smile and no hesitation. It’s a beautiful 10-minute walk by the sea into central Chania. We’re grateful to everyone at the hotel for making our Crete trip even more special.

I spent five days at Doma Hotel in Chania, a well-situated historic building with stunning views. It’s about a 10-minute walk to either the city center or the marina. The people working there made my stay especially pleasant and memorable. They helped with all the bookings and plans I needed, and made me feel as if I were staying with local friends who’d go to the moon and back to make things wonderful. Thank you so much!

The staff were incredibly kind. I’d misunderstood the standard room booking and hadn’t realized the beds could be either two twins or one double, assigned at check-in. When I asked whether my husband and I could switch to a room with one bed, they went above and beyond and upgraded us. Doma Hotel has a lovely antique feel, a delicious buffet breakfast, and a great spot just steps from the beach and a 15-minute walk to the old town. Stellar service.
